Toward comprehensive solar energy mapping systems for urban electricity system planning and development
Continued growth of distributed solar energy capacity in urban environments is expected to create intersectional, spatial challenges for electricity grid stakeholders. This paper assesses how spatial decision-support systems produce reliable data that can facilitate planning between multiple stakeholder groups. A review of SDSS tools that already exist demonstrates weaknesses in functional capacity, spatial capabilities and/or transparency. We propose a workflow that models a suitable solar SDSS and demonstrate its application with a case study.
