ENT 532 (2024): Praying mantis
Just like the name describes it, this mantis had its hands up and praying like it was about to jump on me. It was collected from Valeria's hand after she helped me pick it from a maize plant after it rained for about an hour. After she restrained the hands, she took her finger up to its face. The mantis seemed to get so curious about her nails, moving its jaws rigorously over them, either trying to chew off the hands restricting it or just trying to explore its new reality. It probably thought she was a threat. I wonder if its jaws (mandible) are strong enough to bite off flesh of humans.
