
Racial Differences in Legitimacy Assessments: Examining the Effects of Procedural Justice and Utilitarian Assessments of Police
Groundwork: Public perceptions of of law enforcement is prevalent in the US. This project examines procedural justice and instrumental assessments of police by racial group.
Research Questions: Are there racial differences in perceptions of police? What explains racial differences in anticipated cooperation with law enforcement? Are racial differences explained by normative or instrumental perceptions of police?
Approach: Structural equation models of a cross-sectional self-report survey collected from 1093 U.S. residents.
