Translating “PAUSE for Your Health” into Spanish: A Significant Step for Expanding Health Literacy in the U.S.
PAUSE for Your Health was developed in 2023 as a consumer‑focused tool to help users evaluate the validity of online health information. With nearly 45 million U.S. residents (13.9%) speaking Spanish at home1 and misinformation continuing to circulate widely online, creating a Spanish‑language adaptation is a critical step toward expanding access and improving health literacy. As a result, PARE Por Su Salud has been developed. This tool invites users to PARE Por Su Salud — Piensa antes de compartir (Think before sharing), Analiza la fuente (Analyze the source), Revisa la comprensión y la actualidad (Check your understanding and the timeliness), and Evalúe riesgos (Evaluate risks) — to determine whether the information is truly good for their health.
This poster was presented at the annual conference of the Medical Library Association (MLA '26), which took place May 19-22, 2026 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
