Gnomey’s Journey: Connecting with Students through Information Literacy

In a world relying on AI to create art and written works, Librarians at Louisiana State University in Shreveport focused on connecting with students through a gamified storyline about the Noel Memorial Library’s mascot, Gnomey. First-Year Experience Librarian Celeste Leeds-Laliberte and STEM Librarian Martha Dauzat created a series of tabling events titled Research on the Run with information literacy learning outcomes and gamified activities. Gnomey’s journey illustrated common dilemmas students face during the research process. Librarians drew from their own experiences with students, creating from scratch an original presentation that AI could not have replicated. By connecting Librarian and student experiences together through a gamified storyline, Research on the Run enforced the power of human connection.
