Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Resilience: Understanding the Impact and Protective Factors
This research explores why some individuals with Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) engage in criminal behavior while others demonstrate resilience. Childhood trauma significantly increases the likelihood of adolescent delinquency, however, Positive Childhood Experiences (PCEs) function as protective factors that foster resilience against negative outcomes. This analysis of the relationship between ACEs and criminal justice involvement suggests that intentionally created PCEs may effectively mitigate the impact of childhood trauma and reduce delinquent behavior through a "self-righting" process of adaptation and recovery.
