Keynote Address

Visual artist Julia Weist delivers this artist talk and opening keynote address for Libraries Stand for Privacy: National Forum for Privacy Literacy Standards and Competencies. Weist describes her methodology for using her private investigator license to query proprietary license plate reader databases and other private sector investigative tools to produce collage works that expose the ubiquity of surveillance in contemporary American society, posing provocative questions about who should have this power and how it should be regulated. Weist also explains her political advocacy for stronger privacy regulations as an artistic process.
