Testing Water Quality and Safety in Local Springs
The project aims to assess the water quality of local springs originating from South Mountain, determining if the water is safe to drink or contaminated with coliform bacteria over the course of a year.. The study involves collecting water samples from two sites near the campus: Tomstown Pump and Traveler's Spring. In this analysis, water from both springs were tested for the presence of Escherichia coli, and evaluated as whether there was enough bacteria present to deem the water unsafe for drinking. The study concluded that, at certain time points, coliforms were present at both sources but did not correlate to rainfall or temperature.
