Fall 2024 Disease Survey of PSU Mont Alto Arboretum Oaks for Bacterial Leaf Scorch (BLS)

Following a severe drought, and indication of the presence of this disease on campus in fall of 2024, I performed a diagnostic survey of all oak trees across the Mont Alto Aboretum for Bacterial Leaf Scorch. This project was facilitated by the Schatz research grant, and organized by Mrs. Jennie Mazzone. This project involved a visual inspection of 170 oak trees across the Mont Alto arboretum, collections of 42 symptomatic leaf samples, and DNA extraction testing to confirm presence of the bacterial pathogen Xylella fastidiosa in symptomatic leaf samples.

This project was the second place winner in the Oral Presentations category
