Personalized viral genomic investigation of herpes simplex virus 1 perinatal viremic transmission with dual fatality

Transmission of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) happens daily around the world, and yet this event is transient and poorly characterized at a genomic level. Here, we present a rare case of perinatal HSV-1 transmission that ended in death of both mother and neonate.
