Understanding Successful Transition from Incarceration: A Theoretical Approach to a Holistic Model

This paper examines the complex challenges faced by formerly incarcerated individuals during societal reintegration, confronting an estimated 44,000 barriers that hinder access to basic needs and contribute to high recidivism rates. Three critical approaches to successful reintegration are analyzed: meeting basic physiological needs, developing pro-social relationships, and achieving cognitive transformation through identity reconstruction. Drawing on multiple theoretical frameworks a comprehensive framework is constructed for understanding effective reintegration strategies that address both structural supports and internal psychological transformation.

This project was a first place winner in the Oral Presentations category and a winner of the University Libraries Award for Information Literacy
