Locked and Unloaded: Assessing Gun Owners’ Storage Practices & Safety Training
Groundwork: Prior research shows that secure firearm storage and gun safety training can help prevent gun violence, injury, and death. However, relatively little is known about American gun owners’ safety training or use of safety precautions.
Research Questions: 1) What safety precautions are owners using with firearms? 2) What individual and macro variables predict safe storage?
Approach: An empirical analysis of survey data collected from a nationally-representative sample of American gun owners (n = 1,085).
