Combined Open Repair of an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm and Relief of a Left Ventricular Assist Device Outflow Graft Obstruction
Patients with left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) continue to present at increasing rates for noncardiac surgery. Within the authors' case report, they highlight a patient who required a multidisciplinary approach to handle the removal of an LVAD outflow graft obstruction and concomitant open abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair during the same anesthetic. Within this case report, the authors also highlight a novel cannulation strategy to minimize the hemodynamic effects of the aortic cross-clamp and other interesting aspects of the case.
