Employing disruptive innovation in a nascent undergraduate health policy program
The paper describes disruptive innovation strategies used in the design of a nascent Baccalaureate program in Health Policy and Administration at the Lehigh Valley Campus of The Pennsylvania State University (PSU-LV). FlexLearning, a hybrid course delivery method recently implemented at PSU-LV, is an impetus for the approach, and is the key disruptive innovation. Other innovations include e-portfolios, digital badging, open educational resources, mobile integration, game-based learning and virtual reality simulations. Continuous quality improvement is incorporated into the assessment process to improve program effectiveness and students' competency-based outcomes.
