Necessary Condition for Applicability of a Unified Perturbation Theory (1970)
A necessary and general condition for applicability of the two-variable (Poincare-Lighthill) perturbation method follows simply and directly from a unified formulation (1968, J. Comp. Phys. 3, 29). ... The theory is illustrated through the elimination of false secular terms arising in the series solution of canonical equations governing a simple conservative system.
