An Eternal Legacy: How Eleanor Roosevelt’s Humanitarian Efforts Influenced American Culture for Generations to Come

This thesis explores the social and political thought of Elenaor Roosevelt. It does so by examining two decades of her column, If You Ask Me, published weekly in Ladies Home Journal and eventually moving to McCall’s. Specifically, the thesis analyzes her views on women’s roles and rights, Civil Rights, and the Cold War. This thesis argues that Roosevelt’s humanitarian efforts outside of her role as First Lady altered the course of American history and her direct correspondence with the American public influenced past, present, and future generations.
