Profiling NPOs in need for Cybersecurity Readiness Evaluation
This project presents a data-driven approach to identifying nonprofit organizations (NPOs) in need of cybersecurity support. Leveraging public data from Charity Navigator, GuideStar, and IRS Form 990 filings, the team implemented clustering techniques to segment over 80,000 Pennsylvania-based NPOs. After extensive data cleaning and dimensionality reduction, a two-cluster model was selected based on silhouette score analysis. Evaluation against a curated list of 113 NPOs in known need demonstrated promising alignment, with most matched organizations falling into the predicted high-risk cluster. The findings support future efforts to target cybersecurity resources where they are most needed and offer a scalable framework for broader application.
