
SUBSURFACE DISPOSAL OF ACID MINE WATER BY INJECTION WELLS
Special Research Report SR-52 This report discusses technical and economic factors related to subsurface waste disposal, with particular emphasis on the disposal of acid mine water in Pennsylvania. The source and properties of acid mine water are reviewed and the subsurface geology of western Pennsylvania is de scribed. The development and completion of dis -posal wells are examined and the associated surface facilities are considered. Legal and economic factors are analyzed and several present applications of subsurface disposal are presented for compari- son. The value of a pilot disposal well installation is discussed and conclusions and recommendations are presented.
