Advisor: Dr. Robert Voigt, Professor, Harold & Inge Marcus Department of Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering (rcv2@psu.edu)
The Pennsylvania Technical Assistance Program (PennTAP) at The Pennsylvania State University is a statewide technical assistance organization charged with supporting Pennsylvania businesses and anchor institutions — including manufacturers, municipalities, educational institutions, entrepreneurs, farmers, and economic development agencies. The organization’s statewide network of expert technical advisors focuses on helping Pennsylvania businesses through three primary areas of service: energy and operational assessments, energy grants and rebates, and university engagement. PennTAP understands each and every client’s problems, needs, and areas for growth are unique, and takes a holistic approach in identifying the best course of action. This paper on behalf of the Pennsylvania Technical Assistance Program (PennTAP), presents the results of the Economy, Energy, and Environment (E3) event conducted at QCast Aluminum on August 25 and August 26, 2022, and September 30, 2022. The intent of the E3 event was to make practical and feasible recommendations at the facility that would result in increased production while decreasing energy consumption and the pollution generated at the facility. The results of the E3 event and the anticipated savings are provided in the attached report. A summary of the conservation opportunities and recommendations is provided at the end of the report. The energy efficiency recommendations made in this report could save QCast Aluminum upto $2540 or 25463 kWh annually.
