A Late Medieval Settlement at Panakton

The ancient fortress of Panakton, overlooking the Skourta plain, was resettled and occupied for approximately a century during the period of the Catalan and Florentine Duchy of Athens and Thebes. Crowned by a tower, the site had two small chapels and a church and numerous houses which were abandoned in the early 15th century. The church contained burials in its narthex and around its perimeter, skeletal remains from which reveal a population of two distinct physiological types. Excavated houses contained assemblages of common domestic wares of the 14th and 15th centuries.
