True Violence in Video Games: “he'd rather be called birdetta” or Transgender Representation in Gaming

Context: The topic of violence and video games has been a popular concern for several years and routinely challenged. However, it is merely a distraction for the true form of violence that is portrayed: symbolic violence. Problem: Video games expose individuals to discrimination and mistreatment through symbolic violence and it is reinforced as normal behavior. In this case, the perceptions of gender, especially transgender representations in games.
