Learning To Like/Understand Rap Music

The participants have previous knowledge of different rap artists and rap songs. The participants had classmates, friends, and family recommend rap songs and artists from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s to listen to. Listening to different types of music could be beneficial to helping a person become more creative. They are studying themselves. More specifically how they portray the rap music they listen to. Did they like it? Do they understand the meaning of the song? Do they like the artist? The participants journal about the rap music that they listen to. Each week they listen to at least 4 songs from different eras of rap. And they rate each song out of 5 stars. For example, this week they listened to 4 songs from the late 1970s. All 4 songs added up to a total rating of 11/20 stars and 10/20. Then they divided their total number of stars by the number of songs they listened to (4) to get an average of 2.75/5 stars and 2.5/5 stars. We will then analyze the means and compare them to each other to see which age of rap music we appreciate the most. Not pushing away or dismissing rap music and listening to it will help them appreciate or understand the genre.
