INVESTIGATIONS OF THE CYCLONE WASHING OF FINE COAL IN WATER

Special Research Report SR-61 The large centrifugal forces generated within a cyclone have been utilized for a number of gravitational processes for the separation of finely divided solids: (a) phase separation, i.e., clarification of thickening, (b) classification, and (c) separation of particles of different density suspended in a medium of intermediate density. In addition a few publications during recent years have indicated that separation according to density in cyclones might be achieved without the use of a dense medium
