ENT 532 Fall 2024: Moth Observations

Photos and sketches of my observations of a moth. Found on the outside wall of my apartment complex (09/25/2024).

My observations:

1:52am: Cold. ~60° with a slight breeze. Dark brown moth has been sitting in the same position from last I saw it from about an hour ago. It is tucked away in the apartment complex's wall crevice. There are lights in the hall, but the crevice keeps the moth within the shade. The moth has a very narrow head. I wonder what sort of function that serves. Perhaps for aerodynamics, or feeding habits? The rest of the body is more wide. Darker scales located anteriorly, lighter scales located more posteriorly. Blends in well with the shadows. If sitting on bark, I'd imagine it to be near impossible to spot this moth. End: 2:13am.
