Use of Milk Fatty Acid Metrics to Make Nutrition and Management Decisions
Recent innovations in models for mid-infrared milk analyzers allow for high-speed, routine measurement of fatty acids (e.g. de novo, mixed, and preformed fatty acids) and fatty acid unsaturation in bulk tank and individual cow milks. Dietary, management, and cow factors that affect milk fatty acid metrics will be discussed. In addition, suggestions for benchmarks, monitoring programs, and troubleshooting herd issues will be shared.
