Promotion and Tenure in Academic Libraries: Impact on Librarians of Color
Tenure and faculty status for academic librarians is under increasing scrutiny from administration and others. Some have argued that they are an absolute necessity. Others have countered that they introduce challenges to individuals and academic library work environments. A panel of academic library deans and leaders will discuss how promotion and tenure (P&T) processes and faculty status impact academic libraries' efforts to advance diversity, equity, and inclusiveness within the occupation. They have worked in tenure-granting and/or non-tenure granting institutions, and will share stories that illuminate hidden costs and benefits of these processes that impact librarians of color.
