A STUDY OF THE CONCRETE BLOCK INDUSTRY: A NATIONAL AND REGIONAL APPROACH

Special Research Report SR-91 Three important trends are discernable in the national block industry: there is a strong indication that block manufacturing costs will rise more rapidly than they have in the past; traditional construe- tion methods are being replaced by lower cost industrialized (prefabri- cated) techniques; construction markets which consume block are not expected to grow as rapidly during the 1970's as they did during the 1960's. Consequently, block production should level off or decrease by 1975. The status of the industry after this date is uncertain. Future consumption depends upon increases in block costs and the application of block in industrialized building techniques.
