Shipping Board Bureau (1933-1936)

The U.S. Shipping Board (SB 1) was established by act of Sept. 7, 1916 (39 Stat. 729). Abolished by EO 6166 of June 10, 1933, and functions, including those with respect to U.S. Shipping Board Merchant Fleet Corporation, transferred to U.S. Shipping Board Bureau, Department of Commerce, effective Mar. 2, 1934. Separation of employees deferred until Sept. 30, 1933, by EO 6245 of Aug. 9, 1933. Functions assumed by U.S. Maritime Commission (MC 1) Oct. 26, 1936, pursuant to act of June 29, 1936 (49 Stat. 1985).
