Do You Have a Right to Die? Ethical Dilemmas in Healthcare

Physician-assisted suicide (PAS) is gaining popularity in European countries and America (Grove, 2022). This review of literature considers both sides of the controversy surrounding this ethical dilemma, provides surrounding history, and considers religious perspectives. There is a large rift between the ethical values of those who support it and those who are against PAS whether it is due to their morals, religion, or views as a physician. Ultimately, this study aims to provide both sides of knowledge for patients to receive the best possible care.

    Description
    • Physician assisted suicide is gaining more popularity in European countries and America (Grove et al., 2022). However, there is controversy on whether it should be allowed due to physician's personal beliefs, moral views, and religious confines. Life and death constructs are challenged at a societal level and evolve over time. Throughout history, the societal acceptance of physician-assisted suicide, euthanasia, and rational suicide has evolved tremendously. Currently, physician-assisted suicide has specifically gained the spotlight and is beginning to gain acceptance in some areas, but not others.
