Students developing multiple literacies through audio narratives on global warming solutions

ABSTRACT: Having students create their own audio narratives in introductory-level Earth science courses and through independent study provides the opportunity for the development of multiple literacies (information, digital, science) as well as communication skills. Students are introduced to the research process in sessions with an instructional librarian, a campus writing center, then technology tools for dissemination. Audio was selected as the medium for students as it is an accessible technology with a low entry to utilization, ease of recording at home and away from campus, and the ability to listen and review during commute times. One example of the integration of these foundational research skills will be showcased from student audio narratives on solutions to global warming.
