Learning More About Baba’s Story Through Census Records
Many of us know what the census is but how can we use it to find out about the lives of our Rusyn ancestors? We will go beyond where they lived to look at elements of their lives, including details of their occupation, who lived with them, their family language, birth locations, and more. We will also look at how to use records in consecutive censuses to track members of the family and discuss the different kinds of information we can find in each census. Finally, we will take time to discuss the missing 1890 census and how you can locate some of that information elsewhere, how you can prepare for the release of the 1950 census, and what the 1869 Hungarian census and others can tell you about your Rusyn family.
