Quality Talk: Research

Quality Talk is a teacher-facilitated, small-group discussion approach that encourages students to use talk as a tool for thinking and inter-thinking.

The discussion model is a multifaceted approach that aims to improve students’ high-level comprehension and critical-analytic thinking about, around, and with text and content through initial professional development, ongoing coaching, and comprehensive curricular materials. The approach has effectively increased students' fluency, basic and high-level comprehension, and oral and written argumentation in elementary language arts, high-school physics and chemistry, and elementary and university-level second-language learning in the United States, South Africa, Taiwan, and mainland China.
