Shelf

This program counts call numbers in 495 subject categories.

The subject codes used are the 490 categories from the National Shelflist Count plus additional categories for theses, documents, media, micromedia, and miscellaneous items. LC, NLM, and Dewey call numbers are all accepted.

The call number ranges are based on LC call numbers. Call numbers classed in Dewey Decimal system are converted to LC call numbers using translation tables (se files DEWY2LC1 and DEWY2LC2). Call numbers classed using the National Library of Medicine system are converted to LC call numbers using translation tables (see file NLM2LC).

Also included is a program "Loader" that predicts upcoming receipt of serial issues for a serials check-in program.

Programs are written using PL/I.
