The Greek Text of the Vezirhan Stele (SEG 47-1684): A Sacred Marriage and Dedication to an Unnamed Goddess
The Vezirhan stele, a late 5th-century monument from NW Anatolia depicting a goddess (a Potnia Theron type), a scene of communion between a man and woman (a sacred marriage) and a hunting scene, contains a long Phrygian inscription and a short Greek inscription apparently summarizing the (still largely undecipherable) Phrygian text. Clear in most respect, the Greek text presents a passage that has defied translation, but can in fact be read as an elliptical reference to a marriage and the dedication to a goddess.
