How Accessible Are We?

Disability and accessibility are two important terms when discussing how people interact and live within our diverse world. In the United States, we are required to follow ADA regulations and expect for people to be accepting and adapt to those with disabilities, but is this always the case? The purpose of this presentation is to outline different disabilities, examine the impact of social stigmas on disabled people, as well as address downfalls and successes of accessibility, locally and country-wide. From bathroom stalls in stores that lack handicap accessibility to menus in restaurants that do not cater to those with vision impairments, I will be attempting to answer the question of “how accessible are we?” while also offering areas of improvement for the future of accessibility.
