Significant amounts of oil and gas are trapped in naturally fractured reservoirs, the kind of reservoirs developed at a rapid speed since the breakthrough in hydraulic fracturing technology. A good development strategy for such reservoirs requires accurate information on reserve in place. However, traditional rate transient analysis, a reserve estimation technique, is not suited for naturally fractured reservoirs. In this study, a new rate transient analysis technique is derived by applying a more rigorous dual-porosity model for naturally fractured reservoirs.
