Physical Activity, Seasonality, and Weather Indices: A Scoping Review of Research with Device-based Measures of Physical Activity

Environmental influences such as seasonality have been shown to impact physical activity (PA), and recentadvances in technology have made it easier to measure PA in realtime. The purpose of this scoping review wasto examine the impact of seasons and weather on devicebased measurements of physical activity. 53 relevantarticles were identified from 558. Winter and precipitation were consistently associated with lower PA. Weather and seasons must be considered when designing PA interventions.
