Dataset for Fate of Pharmaceuticals in a Treated Wastewater Spray-Irrigation System: From Wastewater to Groundwater Public

Land application of wastewater effluent on forested and agricultural fields is becoming a common practice that recycle nutrients in wastewater and makes use of soil as biogeochemical filter for wastewater. However pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) that persist in treated wastewater effluent pose potential environmental and human health concerns in such wastewater reuse systems. Despite the widespread reuse of wastewater in this manner, the long-term sustainability of spray irrigation and the impact on underlying groundwater has received limited scientific attention. we collected water samples through a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) and from 13 groundwater monitoring wells at a spray-irrigation field where all of the wastewater has been spray-irrigated since the early 1980s. Samples were collected for a 14-month study period (October 2016 through December 2017).

  • B. Short description:
    Data in the WWTP and Living Filter Groundwater Data file reports concentrations of pharmaceuticals in the PSU wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). In Phase I, 24-h composite samples were collected weekly from October 2016 through February 2017 from the WWTP influent, and after each treatment process to the final plant effluent that is spray irrigated at the Living Filter. In Phase II, 24-h composite samples were collected monthly from April to December 2017 from the WWTP influent and effluent. Sheet two includes concentrations of pharmaceuticals in at the PSU Living Filter where treated WWTP effluent is spary-irrigated in forested and agricultural land. Monthly groundwater samples were collected from October 2016 through October 2017 from each of the 13 monitoring wells at the Living Filter.
