You Play Like a Girl

Within the last decade, women empowerment had become a movement in the sports world. Women are grabbing a hold of their opportunities and showing why they are as good, if not better than their male counterparts. However, the public perception of women’s sports is not strong due to a lack of media coverage and weak narratives. Previous studies have examined newspaper and magazine articles, broadcasts and the internet as sources to find results that show a weaker focus on women’s sports compared to men’s sports. Narratives tend to focus on gender stereotypes and bias rather than presenting player attributes and skills like the men.
